Programs Used:

-SolidWorks: Made with separate parts. Can be 3D printed and Assembled as a model (fine tuning needed)

-KeyShot:

-Photoshop

Rules:

1) The 2 had to work together both visually and functionally

2) The overall appearance needed to look like a Dieter Rams design.

3) I wanted to add my own twist to the color and details.

Creating the model for the coffee maker was fun. I enjoy working with simple shapes and adding features later. Not only does it save time on hand crafting, simple shapes in the long run can save money on manufacturing. I was targeting both of these while keeping withing my Branding instructions.

The WAKE Coffee Maker was design for the rugged and tough, but also the stylish person. It was meant to be an indoor/outdoor use coffee maker.

The rectangular form gives it the sense or simplicity and modernism. Adding the wood around the bodies brings out the character in the coffee maker and the coffee drinker.

I felt it was necessary to open up the color scheme to a variety of colors and patterns so not to leave anyone out!

Brainstorm/Research:

-Photoshop

My first attempt at a word cloud was an interestingly challenging task. Coffee is my favorite beverage and the words contained in the collage consisted of what coffee is to me in addition to other things.

Creating a brand collage was necessary for the development of a Dieter Rams inspired design. The features needed to be elegant and simple. The functionality was to be easy and obvious. It was a great experience researching and learning about the brand language for my design specific design.

Collecting a variety of images that I felt inspired by that I could use within my design was a bit slow at first. This brainstorming method helps greatly to determine how I want the design to look, and what additional qualities I can add to it. Rectangular forms in my inspiration findings were mainly referenced as it made the most sense for what I wanted to design.

Hand Crafted Model:

Materials Used:

-Polystyrene sheets (1/32",1/16", 1/8"), Bamboo Strips, Polystyrene Solvent, Super Glue, Hot Glue
